BYOCB

So one might ask....what does BYOCB stand for.

In this case, it stands for Bring Your Own Cabana Boy. The term was devised by my dear friend Michael, who used it in conjunction with a possible trip to Whistler.

Yesterday on the bus to work...I ran into my old friend Vonn. We used to work together at a hotel in Calgary in the early 90's. We (meaning Allison and myself) used to call him "Schmee". We even had a song for him...that used almost every rhyming word for "Schmee". I was turned around talking to him, when this woman walked down the bus aisle in a hideous outfit. There were so many patterns happening, I got instantly nauseous. It turned out though...that I was really just feeling ill from facing backwards for too long. As soon as I faced forward...it was gone. I still blame the patterns (particularly this violent houndstooth) for bringing it on.

One of the guys on my team and I have sort of a private joke going on....which is nothing more than dropping the 'g' at the end of words ending in 'ing'. You know....readin', eatin', arrangin'....this became funny to us at last November's RSNA in Chicago.

Yesterday though...we both ended up laughing so hard over a new one. I was refluxin'.

Archive photos

I recently got up to speed on someone's blog...I only had it bookmarked at work. Due to the ever-increasing business at work for the past couple of months...I haven't had the time to surf my regular blogs. One of his entries included old photos. I'm going to "borrow" that idea and post some old photos myself.

This is one of my favorite pictures I took while working in the UK. It was taken at the Roman Baths, in Bath, in 2003.

Clearly, I didn't take this picture. I did scan it, however! This is my Nana and Papa, and their three children before they came to Canada. This was taken in England in 1948, and they crossed the pond in 1950. The baby is my Mum.

Sometimes the obvious just cracks me up. Niagara Falls in 2000.

Bonsecor Market in Montreal, 2002.

Fumes

For the past few weeks, every time I come home, there are fumes of sort. There was the weekend of painting my bedroom. Then there was the weekend of painting the chair. And then there was the weekend of painting the side table. Oh...and then there was the rush job on staining another chair. So pretty much anytime I enter my apartment...it smells like paint, paint thinner, or stain.

Now, I am not anti-fume in general. For instance, I enjoy the smell of a good marker. Specifically, dry erase markers. I also like Sharpies, and the old school, fat, black felt markers. So one would think that the smell of paint fumes might be enjoyable to me...say...like the smell of gasoline. I've learned that this is far from the truth. It turns out, my fume palate is quite particular, and not just any brain cell-killing will do.

Scarlett Portrait

Some of you have had the pleasure of meeting Scarlett. Some of you have not. Consider yourself lucky.

Scarlett is a cat. Specifically, she is my cat. I've had cats before, and I question whether Scarlett is, in fact, a cat at all. You've probably heard the expression that cats are little ladies in fur coats? In this case, the lady in question has poor social skills, obsessive compulsive disorder, and is in need of mood altering drugs.

Michael found this picture and sent it to me.....the email was entitled "Scarlett as a kitten".

This is a current portrait of the fur-coated lady in question, the resemblance is uncanny.

New Orleans - Day 3

Psych!

It's not Day 3 in New Orleans...but you probably know that. I've been getting a little bit of pressure to update the blog ...you know who you are. I've been home for weeks now.

I do have some interesting photos I took in N.O. though....

All sorts of other things have been going on since I got home. Some redecorating, some bridal shower stuff, some exciting new purchases, some parties...the list goes on!
One of the more exciting things was that I bought a new bike. Well, not really a new bike per se...but new to me. I'm going to have a naming contest for the bike one day soon (as soon as I take the picture).

A few weeks ago, Michael wrote a blog entry about how a particular song can take you back to a specific moment in time. I had one of those myself last Sunday.
A retro video clip show was on TV, and the song "Bizarre Love Triangle" by New Order came on. I was immediately transported to Banff in 1989. I was working as a maid at the Banff Springs Hotel, and was living in the employee residence...sharing a room with two other girls. My best friend, also a maid, was Melanie who was from Prince Albert, SK. We worked together all and hung out every day. Most of our evenings were spent in a club in the hotel...where we would dance all night and drink "Monkey's Lunches". For some reason, Mel and I would always go dance to "Bizarre Love Triangle". The last I heard of Mel, she was the manager of a pet store in Saskatoon. I miss her.
She is also the reason that sometimes I call my friends "Bag"...as it was our nickname for each other.

N'awlins Day 2

So I've discovered a few things I never knew...mainly that I like Cajun music and food. I've also discovered that men will throw you beads, with no reciprocation on your part. I also realized that given high temperatures and humidity...wine will not suffice...only beer will do.

I've had a day and a half so far of playing "tourist" and its been great. This is a great city, despite the poverty, the smell, the street people, and everything being so expensive. The French Quarter is amazing...fantastic architecture mixed in with debauchery and nudity everywhere. So far, I've toured the Quarter, the French Market, the Garden District, an above-ground cemetery, the Riverwalk, and taken a ferry across the Mississippi River.

I've eaten po'boys, red beans & rice, muffaletta, coffee with chicory, beignets, and oysters...and it's only Sunday!
I also took a video of a street band I saw yesterday...click here to see it...

The Wiki

I love Wikipedia. I really, really do.

I checked my IE history for the last week, and here are my Wiki topics visited:

And this is just the last 7 days. Never mind the things I look up at work...
